Phenomics

OPAL uses a variety of techniques to capture digital plant images (both above and below ground) in controlled and in-field environments.
Our digital phenotyping services include the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) including drones and fixed wings, ground support vehicles for UAV transport and operations, and in-field platforms for high resolution imaging.
Our phenomic equipment includes:
- Sensor technologies: These include 2D and 3D imaging equipment to capture above and below ground data. Also included are multi-spectral cameras, high spatial resolution RGB, and thermal imaging which can be mounted on drones or on conventional farm equipment to capture conventional images of crops in fields. The images are recorded in digital format.
- Phenomobile: A phenotyping robot that provides detailed information about crops.
- Other technologies used for capturing root system images.
